Do you know who I am? I am a Sahrawi. The land to which I refer is what is known today as the non-self-governing territory ofWestern Sahara. My country was colonized by the Spanish and the French between 1884 and 1975, divided in two and occupied by Moroccan and Mauritanian forces thereafter, and has been ruled exclusively by the Kingdom of Morocco from 1979 until the present.

Nairobi, April 04, 2012 (SPS) - A group of Kenyan activists have announced on Tuesday the establishment of Kenya-Western Sahara Friendship society “to mobilise support and solidarity from the people of Kenya and Africa for solidarity with the people of Western Sahara ”.

“The Kenya-Western Sahara Friendship society has officially been registered by the government of Kenya. We are now legal entity to pursue the case of self determination of the saharawi people in Kenya and the region” said the Executive Secretary- Kenya Western Sahara Friendship Society, Jared Akama Onyari, in statement reached SPS.

Mr. Onyari underlined that the new body aims at forging links of solidarity and friendship between the people of Kenya and those of Western Sahara. “Supporting the liberation struggle of the last colony in Africa”.

“The Mission is of the society is to mobilise support and solidarity from the people of Kenya and Africa for solidarity with the people of Western Sahara and their struggle for their inalienable right to national freedom and self determination” he added. (SPS)
