Do you know who I am? I am a Sahrawi. The land to which I refer is what is known today as the non-self-governing territory ofWestern Sahara. My country was colonized by the Spanish and the French between 1884 and 1975, divided in two and occupied by Moroccan and Mauritanian forces thereafter, and has been ruled exclusively by the Kingdom of Morocco from 1979 until the present.

Oblivion it seems is the current reality for the arid North African territory of Western Sahara; often referred to as Africa’s ‘Last Colony’. In my opinion, it would be more accurate to describe it as ‘Africa’s Forgotten Colony’.

EL CORAJE DE UN PADRE SAHARAUI. ~ Colectivo Saharaui

Salam Alaikum.
Me llamo Laaouissi Omar, nacido en 1952.
Formo parte del grupo de 13 saharauis que han renunciado a la nacionalidad marroquí por razones de convicciones y por nuestra militancia para la autodeterminación del pueblo saharaui. Por ello, las autoridades marroquíes secuestraron a mi hija, Yousra Laaoussi Omar de 10 años de edad. Esto ocurrió cundo mi hija se fue con su tía (de parte de la madre) a la comisaria para gestionar algunos documentos. La pequeña haciendo el signo de la victoria dijo: “Viva el frente saharaui”. Los policías le preguntaron a la tía si era la madre, a lo que respondió que no, que ella era la tía. Le preguntaron que quién era el padre, a lo que respondió: “Laouissi Omar”. Tras esto, le ordenaron irse y regresar tras dos horas para recoger sus papeles. Al volver les dijeron que la niña fue enviada al reformatorio en Agadir (a unos 300 Km de Goulimin, lugar de residencia de la niña). Todo esto como consecuencia de nuestra militancia y nuestra determinación. Nosotros no obedecemos a nadie excepto al pueblo saharaui, a los dirigentes del pueblo saharaui y a su líder Mohamed Abdelaziz.

No tienen ningún derecho sobre mí, ni tampoco sobre mis hijos. Cuando no han podido conmigo atacan a mis hijos, lo que es una grave violación. No hay ningún régimen similar a éste en todo el mundo.
Mando un saludo al pueblo saharaui, a los combatientes, a los dirigentes y a su líder Mohamed Abdelaziz.
