The Occupation We Choose to Ignore’

Do you know who I am? I am a Sahrawi. The land to which I refer is what is known today as the non-self-governing territory ofWestern Sahara. My country was colonized by the Spanish and the French between 1884 and 1975, divided in two and occupied by Moroccan and Mauritanian forces thereafter, and has been ruled exclusively by the Kingdom of Morocco from 1979 until the present.

The Western Sahara: forgotten first source of the Arab Spring

this is one part of the Arab Spring that western governments don't want to talk about. And their silence, and the UN's complicity in it, is why that repression continues, and a terrible injustice is perpetuated.

North African Dispatches Africa’s Forgotten Colony

Oblivion it seems is the current reality for the arid North African territory of Western Sahara; often referred to as Africa’s ‘Last Colony’. In my opinion, it would be more accurate to describe it as ‘Africa’s Forgotten Colony’.

Morocco brake the ceasefire

Deaths in Western Sahara  camp and Defenceless civilians
AND
"WE have never been close to war " POLISARIO said

At least 14 people have been killed and 279 injured  and more than 159 missing ,in a raid by Moroccan forces on a protest camp in the disputed region of Western Sahara, sources on both rival sides have said.
this happened  when Morocco sent paramilitary police and royal force to destroy the  protest camp which had sprung up just outside the capital, Laayoune .

Several thousand people had joined the camp at Gadaym Izik - the largest protest in the three-decade dispute.

They are  overtly demanding independence like Polisario ,

The security forces used water cannon  and fire bombs  to clear the protesters,
the Morocco suppose to be in real direct negotiation with the pilisario
in the US aimed at ending the conflict over the region. .however this has one meaning they are directly broking the ceasefire that was firmed in the end of  1991 ,The violence broke out just hours before United Nations-brokered talks were due to resume in the US, led by the latest UN envoy to the region, US diplomat Christopher Ross.

Negotiations have stalled for more than a decade, with a succession of UN envoys tasked with ending the dispute but moving on after failing to break the deadlock.Morocco have been refusing  to offer anything  for the region, while Polisario insists that full independence must be offered in a referendum.Morocco have been  flooding the region with non-Sahrawis since they invade western Sahara , in order to dilute nationalist feeling and ensure that any vote rejects independence.
