Do you know who I am? I am a Sahrawi. The land to which I refer is what is known today as the non-self-governing territory ofWestern Sahara. My country was colonized by the Spanish and the French between 1884 and 1975, divided in two and occupied by Moroccan and Mauritanian forces thereafter, and has been ruled exclusively by the Kingdom of Morocco from 1979 until the present.

Oblivion it seems is the current reality for the arid North African territory of Western Sahara; often referred to as Africa’s ‘Last Colony’. In my opinion, it would be more accurate to describe it as ‘Africa’s Forgotten Colony’.

وكالة المغرب العربي للانباء: وزير الخارجية الإسباني لدى لقائه نظيره المغربي يؤك...

مدريد (وكالة المغرب العربي للانباء المستقلة) صرح وزير الخارجية الإسباني، خوسيه مانويل غارسيا مارغايو، يوم الجمعة خلال ندوة صحفية جمعته بنظيره المغربي بمدريد، سعد الدين العثماني، أن بلاده تساند حق الشعب الصحراوي في تقرير المصير، غير أنه تهرب من مسؤوليتها التاريخية عن الدفع نحو تحقيق ذلك.
وقال الوزير الإسباني بلاده تدعم "حلا عادلا، ودائما ومقبولا لدى طرفي النزاع، المغرب والبوليساريو، يضمن تقرير المصير لشعب الصحراء الغربية في إطار الأمم المتحدة".
غير أنه أضاف أنها "ليست من مسؤوليات اسبانيا أن تقرر بأي طريقة سيقوم الطرفان بتحقيق الحق في تقرير المصير"، مستطردا "أعني أن أي حل يجب أن يكون مقبولا ومتفاوضا عليه بين الطرفين".
وكان الحزب الشعبي الإسباني قد أعلن في برنامجه الإنتخابي يوم 20 نوفمبر الماضي عن نيته تبني "الحياد الإيجابي" من أجل تحقيق "حل متطابق مع قرارات مجلس الأمن والقانون الدولي ومع مسؤوليات اسبانيا التاريخية" في النزاع.
من جهته لم ينبس الوزير المغربي ببنت شفة، للرد على سؤال الصحفيين في نفس الموضوع، حيث كان أحدهم قد سأل ما إذا كانت اسبانيا تساند الموقف المغربي من النزاع.
